Found my old college roommate using the local library's computer signup

I've been trying to track down Jenny Kowalski for like 8 years, the one I lived with freshman year at UNLV. Tried Facebook, LinkedIn, even paid for one of those people search sites and got nothing useful. Last week I was at the downtown library and saw their public computer reservation list and figured why not try searching library records, turns out she works at the circulation desk there now. Has anyone else had luck finding people through random public spaces like libraries or community centers?

Read an article saying libraries are the new town squares for finding people.

Three people told me last week they met their gaming group at the library... but I wonder how many people actually walk up to strangers there compared to a real town square. The article probably didn't mention if folks are just grabbing books and leaving, or if they're actually hanging out and talking. I've seen libraries try really hard with those adult game nights and craft sessions, but most people I know still just pop in and out. Is the article talking about big city libraries or small town ones, because those are totally different worlds in my experience. Seems like a nice idea in theory, but I'm not sure people are really replacing the old town square vibe just yet.

Wait... three people told you that? That's wild to me. I have literally never seen a single person walk up to a stranger in my library unless they're asking for directions to the bathroom. Maybe it's different in smaller towns where everybody already knows each other, but in my area people barely make eye contact in the stacks. That article must be talking about some magical library I've never been to... I can't picture someone just... starting a conversation over a book display and then becoming gaming buddies.
