Spent $30 on a 'lost connections' website ad and it totally backfired
I paid $30 to run a Facebook ad looking for my old college roommate Dave from our dorm in Phoenix, thinking it would be a funny way to find him. Instead, three different guys named Dave messaged me claiming to be him, and one even tried to sell me a used couch. Has anyone else tried spending money to track someone down and ended up with total chaos instead?
Have you tried going through your old social media photos or mutual friends first? That's how I tracked down my college roommate. I just scrolled through old tagged photos of us at parties and found a friend who still had her contact info. Worked way better than throwing money at a random ad. Plus no weird couch sales pitches.
Old tagged photos tell you a lot, but half the time those mutual friends don't remember anything either. People move on and lose touch quick. Still worth scrolling through though, costs nothing but your time. That ad route just feels like a long shot to me, especially if you don't know who's running the account.
