Just realized my friend was wrong about watching the original before the remake
My buddy Mark swore I had to see the 1978 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' before the 1993 version. I watched the old one first and it dragged so bad I almost skipped the new one. The 1993 version stands fine on its own, has anyone else ignored this kind of advice?

Totally agree, my cousin swore the original 'Blob' was essential and man was that a slog.

Yeah, "essential" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I mean, I've definitely had that exact experience where someone hypes up a classic and it's just a total drag to get through. @morgan_king36, if you're ever stuck with a "must-see" old movie that's boring you, just skip to the 20 minute mark and see if it grabs you. A lot of those older flicks don't know how to start, so jumping ahead can save you a lot of time. Also, try watching it with the audio commentary if it has one, that can make a slow movie way more fun. I've saved a few movie nights that way, honestly.

My cousin tried to make me watch the original 'The Thing From Another World' before Carpenter's version. Fell asleep twice. Woke up during the final scene and still got the gist. Now I just tell people to watch whatever version looks interesting first. Life's too short for bad pacing.
