My movie projector bulb blew right at the climax of The Dark Knight
Last Saturday I finally set up my old Epson projector in the basement for a big Nolan rewatch. Got about 2 hours into The Dark Knight, right when the Joker is in the interrogation room with Batman, and the bulb just pops and goes dark. Total blackout, no warning, nothing. I sat there in the dark for a solid minute just staring at the ceiling. Checked the lamp hours later and it was at 4,200, way over the rated 3,000. Now I'm stuck deciding between a $300 replacement bulb or just admitting my home theater days are done. Has anyone else had a projector die at the worst possible moment?

Man, "just staring at the ceiling" hit me right in the feels. I had the exact same thing happen during the docking scene in Interstellar, just sat there in the dark like a total loser questioning every life choice that led me to that moment. @juliarodriguez is probably right about the timing though, I was so into it I lost track completely. But honestly, $300 for a bulb feels like throwing good money after bad when you know the next one could pop at any random scene too. I ended up just watching the rest on my laptop with the screen brightness cranked up like some sort of caveman, and honestly it was kind of funny. Maybe your home theater days aren't over, just on a weird intermission until you find a cheap replacement or a friend with a projector they're trying to unload.

That pops and goes dark" is brutal, had the exact same thing happen during my first watch of Interstellar.
