Figured out the mail thief situation with a cheap trail camera
Had packages disappearing off my porch for about 2 months straight. Tried the fake box decoy thing, didnt work. Got a $40 trail cam from Amazon and strapped it to my porch beam pointed at the driveway. Caught the neighbor's kid on video taking a box at 3am. Showed the parents and they made him bring everything back. Has anyone else had luck with a simple camera setup or did I just get lucky?

My buddy Dave out in Phoenix bought one of those cheap cams after his BBQ tools kept vanishing from his garage. He strapped it to a rain gutter and caught his own landlord walking off with his new grill brush at like 1 in the morning. Turns out the guy was borrowing stuff without asking and returning it later, thought nobody would notice. Dave just sent him the video clip and never said a word about it, but the brush showed back up on the porch the next day.

Figure out exactly what kind of camera you need before you buy one though. I put a cheap trail cam up after my first package went missing and it caught the mailman himself dropping one off at the wrong house, took me a week to figure out it was him just being lazy. The one I got has night vision and motion alerts straight to my phone, makes a difference when you're trying to catch someone sneaking around at 2am. Your luck with the neighbor kid is great but having a camera that pings you live means you can walk outside and catch them red handed before they even get away.

I read this thing online where some guy in Florida used a cheap trail cam to catch someone stealing his lawn ornaments. Turned out it was a raccoon dragging them off into the woods. But for real, the cheap cams work good enough for most people. I got a similar one from Walmart for like 35 bucks after my bird feeder kept getting emptied overnight. Caught a possum climbing up the pole, clear as day. The night vision on those things is SURPRISINGLY good for the price. You dont need some 200 dollar fancy system when a 40 dollar trail cam will show you exactly whos messing with your stuff.
