My mom's cooking always skipped the salt, and I finally get why.

Growing up, I thought food was bland, but now I see she was onto something. Reading sodium levels on cans has become second nature to me.

Check the science on salt. Isn't it mostly fine if you're healthy? Feels like people make too big a deal out of it.

Used to say "mostly fine", but evidence changed my mind.

See, that's the thing a lot of people miss. The problem is most of us eat way more salt than we even know, and it adds up over years. Even if you're healthy now, that constant high intake can really push your blood pressure up over time. It's one of those silent things that creeps up on you. Your mom was smart to get ahead of it.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that small, daily things can slowly cause big problems? It's like we're wired to only react to sudden crises... not the slow creep of something like salt in every snack and sauce. I see it everywhere, not just with food. @uma329 has a point about evidence changing minds, but by the time the proof is clear, the damage is often done. We just get used to the way things are and don't notice the slow shift until it's a real issue. It's way easier to ignore a tiny, tasteless thing adding up over years than to change a habit today.
