Talking with my neighbor about cheap batteries changed my whole view
Old guy next door, Jim, he's 72. Told me he's been using the same pack of Duracells in his radio for 2 years. I buy the dollar store ones and they die in a month. Did the math, he spends like $8 a year. I spend $15 every 6 weeks. His way is actually way cheaper. Anybody else notice the cheap stuff ends up costing more in the end?

Yeah, "you really do get what you pay for" is spot on, especially with stuff that gets used a lot. I read somewhere that the biggest trap people fall into is thinking "cheap" means "bargain" when it really just means "low quality." Like with batteries, the dollar store ones leak a lot too (I've had that happen in a remote and it ruined it). Same with tools or kitchen stuff, if you buy the cheap version, you end up buying it again and again instead of just buying the good one once.

My buddy @lewis.mila bought a set of cheap screwdrivers, stripped the tip on the first use, and ended up having to drill the screw out. Learned that lesson the expensive way.

Yeah my dad used to say the same thing about tools. Bought a cheap drill from Harbor Freight and it lasted maybe three projects before it died. His old Craftsman from the 80s still works fine. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.
