Unpopular opinion: I stopped using paper towels after a kitchen fire at my apartment
Last month a grease fire in my neighbor's unit made me realize how fast paper towels burn. I switched to cotton rags and now use maybe one roll every 3 months for cat messes. Has anyone else changed household habits after a close call like that?
Paper towels have their place though, they're way faster than cloth for cleaning up grease or something you don't want ruining a towel. Fire hazard is a risk but that's more about leaving them near the stove than the paper itself.
Wait, you actually had a paper towel catch fire while you were using it? I gotta hear that story, @claire_davis31, because I've had a few close calls where the towel got singed but never full on combusted on me. Was it from the grease soaking through or did you drop it right on an open burner?
