Stood in line for 45 minutes at a job fair only to hear 'we're hiring for entry level sales'
Went to the city hall job fair last Wednesday in Austin thinking I'd find something stable like a clerk position or city maintenance. Nope. Every single booth was either sales or something that required a degree I don't have. The lady at the county office literally said "we just post the openings online now" and waved me off. Has anyone actually landed a decent stable job from a fair like that, or is it all just window dressing?

Go back in person with your paperwork and don't leave until someone stamps it.

I actually gotta disagree pretty strongly here. If you sit there and refuse to leave they'll just call security or a supervisor and you'll end up wasting even more time. I've seen people try that at the DMV and they just get ignored or told to come back another day. The truth is those offices are understaffed and the workers are following process not being salesy. If your paperwork is missing something or flagged in their system no amount of camping out will fix it. Plus you risk getting your file marked with a note about being difficult which could slow things down even more later. Better to call ahead or check online requirements before you go so you know exactly what they need the first time.
