Vent: Blew $300 on a "dream business" course that was just common sense

Last year I was really torn between staying at my boring data entry job or trying to turn my love of baking into something real. I found this online course called "Bake Your Way to Freedom" for $300 and I thought finally, someone who gets it. Turns out it was just a bunch of PDFs saying things like "buy ingredients in bulk" and "post on social media." I kept waiting for the secret sauce but it never came. After two months I tried to get a refund and they ghosted me. So now I'm back at the data entry desk and I still don't know if I should just go for it or not. Has anyone else gotten burned by those so-called guru courses that promise the moon?

Saw a news piece about this exact thing a few months back. Some of these "gurus" get most of their money from course sales, not from actually running a successful baking business or whatever. The reporter talked to a woman who spent $500 on a course about selling candles online and the best tip she got was "use good-smelling wax." That's it. With baking, the real test is just selling a few batches at a local market or to friends first and seeing if people actually buy more than once. Your $300 would have bought a lot of flour and sugar to test the waters yourself.

Man that sucks and I'm sorry you got burned like that, it's way too common with these hustle culture people who just repackage stuff you could google for free. I've seen friends fall for similar things and it's always the same pattern of big promises with zero real support behind the curtain. You probably already know more about baking than whoever put those PDFs together anyway.
