I found out ketchup on a hot dog is actually a divisive topic in Chicago

I was reading this random food blog yesterday and learned that putting ketchup on a hot dog in Chicago can get you judged hard by locals. Apparently it's seen as a kid move and grown folks there use mustard and neon green relish instead. Has anyone else run into weird regional rules like this?

Ketchup getting that much hate is wild to me. Mustard and neon green relish sounds like something you'd put on a clown's wig. Locals seriously gatekeep hot dogs that hard? Bet they act like putting ketchup on a dog is a crime against humanity when half the country does it without a second thought.

Man I moved to Chicago from Ohio five years ago and I swear the first time I ordered a hot dog with ketchup the guy behind the counter gave me this look like I asked him to put mayo on a pizza. Ive literally had my hot dog privileges revoked by a friend who said I was "ruining the sacred cow" or whatever. But honestly neon green relish is basically pickles that fell into a vat of highlighter fluid and died. I get that Chicago dogs are a whole thing but half the time I just want my ketchup and not feel like a food criminal.

@felix414 PREACH. My dad made me eat a Chicago dog once and I wanted to cry for my ketchup.
