Switched sides on paper towels after my brother roasted me

My brother Tom came over last week and saw me using those cheap single-ply store brand paper towels for a spill. He said dude just get the Viva ones they actually pick stuff up and you use less. I rolled my eyes but tried it and yeah he was right. One Viva sheet did what three of the cheap ones couldn't and I'm not going back. Anyone else have a family member prove them wrong about a dumb household choice?

The real hidden cost of cheap paper towels is how much more garbage you generate. Those flimsy ones disintegrate halfway through cleaning up a mess so you grab three more and then you've got this giant wad of trash that barely did the job. Meanwhile one good towel does the work and your trash can doesn't fill up in a day. Plus if you're using them for things like drying your hands or patting down bacon the good ones hold up so you don't need a second one. Your brother probably just got tired of seeing you throw away a whole roll every week.

Read somewhere that using less paper towels saves like a dozen trees a year.
