My surprise when the surgeon said I didn't need the nose job after my deviated septum surgery

I went in for my consultation about fixing my deviated septum. The doctor looked at my nose and told me the bump I hate would actually go away by just straightening the inside. He said I could get cosmetic work too but it would cost an extra $4,000 and add 2 weeks to recovery. I decided to skip it and after the recovery my nose looks way better than I expected. Has anyone else found their functional surgery changed their appearance more than they thought?

@brianm66 hit on something here. It's like when you fix one thing in a house and suddenly the whole room looks different. People focus on one specific problem but forget how everything connects. I've watched friends go through similar stuff with other things too. Like someone fixes their posture and suddenly they look taller and more confident. Or they fix a car's engine and realize the whole ride feels smoother. It's that thing where you fix the root cause and the cosmetic stuff sorts itself out. Not always, but when it works it's a nice surprise.

Used to think it was silly when people said functional nose surgery changed how they looked cosmetically. This post definitely changed my mind on that. Sounds like you got a good result without the extra cost.

Gonna push back on that. "Silly" is actually the right word here. Most functional nose surgeries don't change your looks much at all. The surgeon is working inside your nose, not reshaping the outside. Septoplasty, turbinate reduction, sinus stuff - none of that moves your bone or cartilage on the outside. If someone looks different after a functional surgery, it's usually just swelling going down or a coincidence.
