Six months post-op and I finally see what I was hoping for

I had a rhinoplasty last February and yesterday I caught my reflection in a dark window and just stood there for a second. The bump is completely gone now that the swelling finally settled. Has anyone else had that moment where it suddenly clicks that it was actually worth it?

I mean honestly I had the SAME moment like three months ago after my own surgery and I just stood there STARING at myself like a complete weirdo in a parking lot. But then my brain kicked in and was like "great you spent all that money to look slightly different in a random window reflection." The swelling taking forever is the WORST part though because you're just walking around looking like a potato for months wondering if you made a huge mistake. Now I catch myself in the bathroom mirror and actually smile which is pretty wild considering I used to avoid mirrors like they were cursed objects. Just don't get too cocky about it because the universe has a way of giving you a weird zit or a bad hair day right when you're feeling yourself.

Does anyone else ever think about how your brain has to literally re-calibrate its own self-image after surgery? @the_hayden mentioned looking like a potato for months which is dead on, but I think the weirdest part is when the swelling finally goes down and you catch yourself in a reflection doing something completely normal like scratching your nose and you don't even recognize the hand coming up to your face. For me it was the profile view while driving, I kept turning my head and seeing this different nose and it felt like a stranger was in the car with me for like a week. Then one day I looked at a photo from before and my brain literally couldn't process that as me anymore. The mirror avoidance thing is real though, I went from never looking to accidentally making eye contact with myself in the rearview and doing a double take.
