Found out my city spends more on filling potholes than on fixing sidewalks. Read it in the annual budget report from last fall.

Potholes get drivers to complain louder than broken sidewalks do, I guess.

Right? @diana_kim66 it's wild how a bump in the road gets more attention than a whole cracked up sidewalk that can actually trip someone. I mean, drivers will call the city nonstop about a pothole but nobody's out here logging a report for that broken slab near the bus stop. Maybe it's just me but a sidewalk problem can mess up a stroller or a wheelchair way worse than most potholes ever could. The city hears the loudest voices I guess, and drivers just have more time to yell about it from inside their cars.

From that pothole on Broadway last month, I counted maybe three people who actually tripped on it while crossing the street, and two of them were just clumsy kids running. Meanwhile, the broken sidewalk by the 7-Eleven on 5th has been cracked for two years and nobody's even twisted an ankle near it. You guys act like every sidewalk crack is a death trap, but most people just step over them without a second thought. Potholes actually mess up your car's alignment or pop a tire, and that costs real money to fix, not just a scuffed shoe. Maybe the city should fix both, but let's not pretend a sidewalk crack is the same level of emergency as a pothole deep enough to swallow a hubcap.
