Was told to grease my sled's skis every 50 miles - ignored it, got stuck 3 times last weekend
My buddy who rides the UP trails every winter kept saying to grease the skis after every tank of gas. I thought he was being overly fancy with his new Polaris. I did maybe 150 miles last Saturday on mixed snow and ended up having to dig myself out three times because the snow was sticking bad. Meanwhile he cruised past me without breaking a sweat. So is this actually a real thing or did I just hit bad conditions? Anyone else have a rule they ignored and paid for later?
Is the grease actually that critical though, or is it more about keeping the skis clean? I've noticed that if I wipe mine down with a rag at the gas stop it helps a ton (even without fresh grease). A buddy of mine swears by spraying cooking oil on his skis in a pinch and says it works just as good as the expensive stuff for a day trip.
