Wish I'd known about the baking soda trick for tomato sauce stains years ago
I ruined about 4 good white shirts over the years from spaghetti sauce splatters. Tried every spray and stain stick at the store, nothing worked. Then my grandma told me to make a paste with baking soda and water, let it sit on the stain for 15 minutes before washing. First try got out a 3 day old stain from a shirt I had given up on. Has anyone else found a stupid simple fix like that after wasting money on the fancy stuff?

Wait, doesn't that just make a crusty mess that's harder to scrub off?

You're totally right, that's exactly what happens. I tried that once with a burnt pan, thinking I'd just heat up some water and scrub. But no, it turned into this thick, gooey sludge that stuck to everything even worse. I ended up scraping for like 20 minutes and the sponge was ruined. Never again, I just soak things overnight now and that seems to work way better.
