Changed my mind about the Total Recall remake after finally watching the original

I used to think the 2012 Total Recall with Colin Farrell was just fine... a decent action flick. Then I caught the 1990 version on cable last weekend and it totally flipped my perspective. The original had this weird, gritty charm and that three-boobed lady scene my dad always talked about. The new one is slick but it forgot to be fun or weird in any way. Has anyone else gone back to an old movie and realized the remake missed the whole point?

The part that really got me was when they go to Mars and everything looks so dirty and lived in. I used to think the remake was fine too because I hadn't sat down and watched the original all the way through since I was a kid. That scene where Arnold's buddy gets his eyes bugging out is still horrifying but also hilarious somehow. The new one just feels like it was made by a focus group trying to be sleek instead of actually making choices that stick with you. It made me realize the original understood that sci-fi should feel a little dangerous and weird, not just like a theme park ride.
