My DIY free energy experiment literally caught fire in my garage last night
I was trying to build a simple magnetic generator based on those YouTube videos where guys claim you can run your house for free. Had a spare rotor from an old washing machine and some neodymium magnets I ordered online for about 60 bucks. Got everything wired up on my workbench and hit the switch, and within 30 seconds smoke started pouring out of the coil I wound myself. I yanked the plug so fast I almost knocked over my toolbox. Turns out my wire gauge was way too thin for the current and the whole thing basically melted down. Now I got a burned smell in my garage and my wife is giving me that look again. Has anyone actually gotten one of these things to spin without torching their basement?

Did you catch that part where @gibson.morgan asked about the bridge rectifier because I melted mine too doing the same thing.

Oh man, I feel you on that one. I did the exact same thing my first time and it was a disaster. I was wondering if @gibson.morgan had any tips on heat sinks because I think that's where I went wrong - just assumed the rectifier could handle the load without one. It got so hot it actually started smoking and I had to shut everything down quick. Took me three tries to get a replacement that didn't melt on me. Definitely a learning experience if you ask me.
