PSA: I was wiping my laptop screen with Windex for 2 years

Saw a weird haze under my desk lamp last week and a friend told me I stripped the anti-reflective coating with ammonia. Has anyone else accidentally wrecked a screen finish with the wrong cleaner?

Two years with Windex on a laptop screen? That's insane.

Honestly people act like a little Windex is going to melt the screen. I've wiped mine down with all sorts of stuff over the years and it's still fine. Think the coating thing is overblown for most modern laptops.

Did the screen not get any weird coating damage or streaks after that long? I've heard ammonia cleaners eat away the anti-glare layer over time, but maybe newer laptops handle it differently. Were you using a special Windex formula or just the regular blue stuff?
