Solo in Kyoto: Why I no longer fear eating alone
At first, I was scared to eat by myself in restaurants while traveling solo. On my trip to Kyoto, I forced myself to try a small ramen shop. The chef was friendly and showed me how to order properly. I ended up chatting with other solo diners and shared tips. Now, I look forward to solo meals as a chance to connect. It made my travels richer and more personal. I tell all my friends to give it a try.

Consider how eating solo lets you really taste your meal. In Kyoto, I enjoyed each slurp of ramen without thinking about talk. I saw the chef's hard work on the broth and felt the noodle texture. This made the time more about the food and less about being alone. It changed my fear into a mindful habit. Now I look for quiet places just to focus on the flavors.

No joke, I had the same thing happen with tonkotsu ramen in Tokyo last year. Tbh you notice way more about the broth when you're not trying to talk to someone. It just hits different when it's quiet.
