Went from zero to decent guitar in 3 months by ditching YouTube lessons
I spent a year watching fancy guitar tutorials on YouTube and got nowhere. Then I downloaded a simple metronome app and practiced one chord change for 15 minutes every morning. After 90 days I could finally play along to a whole song without stopping. The difference was just focusing on one thing at a time instead of trying to learn everything. Has anyone else hit a wall with online lessons and found a simpler way that actually worked?

Not really buying this. YouTube lessons actually give you proper technique and theory that a metronome app can't teach you. That 15 minute chord change routine probably just drilled one bad habit deeper instead of fixing your actual issues. Most people who claim they learned guitar in 3 months are playing three chord punk songs badly and calling it "decent." Real progress takes years of structured learning from experts who can actually see what you're doing wrong. A metronome isn't going to show you proper finger placement or help you avoid tendonitis from bad posture.

Ha, yeah I feel this. I spent like 6 months trying to learn fingerpicking patterns from some guy on YouTube and my hand would cramp up after 30 seconds. Eventually I just put on a random blues backing track and tried to find one note that sounded good over it for 10 minutes straight. It was way more fun and I actually started hearing when to hit the beat instead of just copying someone else's moves. Funny how ditching the fancy stuff and doing something boring for a short time works better.

Nobody mentioned that learning to listen is the real skill, not just copying hand positions from a screen.
