Camping in the desert, the grid of section lines finally made sense to me.

So the desert finally gave you a geography lesson, huh? @cole728 nailed it with the real fences and dusty roads, but have you seen where those lines just stop at a cliff? It's like the map promised order but the land delivered chaos. Trying to camp on a section corner only to find it's in the middle of a cactus patch is classic. They really thought they could box up nature with straight lines!

Always thought those maps were just lines until @cole728 showed me real fences and the land refused to be boxed.

Those lines on a map really do mess with how water moves out there. You'll see a wash just stop dead or jump sideways where it hits a section road, like the land itself is fighting the grid. Makes you wonder how many rabbits or coyotes get lost when their trails run into a straight fence line out of nowhere. What @cole728 said about it clicking on the ground is so true, because you see the plan and then you see all the ways nature just does not care about the plan.

It's one of those things that only clicks when you see it laid out on the ground. All those straight lines on a map suddenly become real fences and dusty roads. Makes you appreciate how they carved up the land.
