My uncle swore by $15 HDMI cables and I thought he was crazy
He told me last year that Monster cables are a total rip off and a cheap $15 one from Amazon works just as well for 4K. After a year of using one I finally get it, has anyone else found any other tech products where the cheap version is actually identical?

Wait, has anyone checked if the $15 cable is actually certified for the speed it claims? I bought one that said 48Gbps for HDMI 2.1 but it started dropping signal after three months. The cheap ones work fine for most stuff, but sometimes they cut corners on shielding or the connector pins that can cause issues down the road. My uncle might be right about Monster being overpriced, but not all cheap cables are built the same.

Oh man, I've totally been that person who bought a "too good to be true" cable and then had to crawl behind my TV three months later to swap it out. @moore.beth you're spot on about the shielding, I learned that the hard way when my cheap HDMI started flickering during movie night and I just sat there blaming my receiver like an idiot. I guess sometimes you really do get what you pay for, even when you're broke like me and just want to play some games.
