Debate: Should smart homes automatically adjust your thermostat or leave the manual control alone?
Was at my cousin's place in Phoenix last week and his Nest cranked the AC to 68 while we were out because it 'learned' we'd be back by 6pm. Problem is, we got stuck in traffic and didn't show up until 8pm, wasted a ton of energy. I prefer just walking up to a dumb thermostat and hitting a button myself, no learning curve. Which side do you fall on for home automation?

Oh man, my uncle's smart thermostat did the same thing when we visited, cranked the heat way up because it "thought" we'd be home early and we ended up sweating like crazy for an hour! I just want a simple dial I can turn when I walk in, not a computer guessing my schedule.

A thermostat that can't figure out basic patterns sounds like it needs a firmware update, not a eulogy.

Is it really that big of a deal though? You just walk over and turn the dial down.
