I finally tried that 'smart' air fryer with the app

I got one of those wifi connected air fryers for $80 on sale and spent 45 minutes just pairing it to my phone so it could tell me to flip my fries. The timer stopped working mid-cook because my router blinked out, and my chicken came out raw in the middle. Has anyone else had a dumb smart gadget make a simple thing way harder than it should be?

Oh man, that's rough. I feel you on the whole "smart" thing making simple stuff complicated. I got one of those wifi coffee makers a while back, thought it'd be great to have coffee ready when I wake up. Ended up spending an hour resetting the thing because the app wouldn't sync, and then it just stopped brewing on a timer altogether. Now it's just a regular coffee maker that cost too much. What are you gonna do with the air fryer now, just use it manually?

The thing nobody's talking about is how these smart appliances are basically becoming glorified subscription boxes for your kitchen. You buy the oven, but you don't really own it anymore, you know? That's the real issue here. Six hours locked out because of a software update is insane, but it's just a symptom of the bigger problem. Companies can brick your stuff or change how it works whenever they want, and you're just stuck paying for it. I mean, is your buddy even sure the update was free? Some of these appliances are starting to charge for features you already had built in.
