Overheard my neighbor's Ring doorbell talking to him while he was in the backyard

I was out watering my plants last week and heard my neighbor's Ring doorbell say 'Someone is at your front door' while he was clearly back there grilling. He didn't even flinch, just said 'I know, it's my kid' and kept flipping burgers. Made me think about how these smart devices are always listening and sometimes they're just wrong. Has anyone else caught their smart home stuff saying things that don't make sense?

Honestly that 'I know, it's my kid' part gets me. How did he know his kid was the one at the door without checking the app or seeing a camera feed? Sounds like the doorbell has gotten used to his kid's schedule or something, but that's still creepy. Does he think his Ring is actually smart enough to know who's there, or is he just rolling with whatever it tells him?

That "I know, it's my kid" part got me too, that's exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. I had a similar moment with my own Ring a few months back where it chirped 'Motion detected at front door' and I looked out the window and it was just a squirrel running across the porch. Thing is, the squirrel was on the ground and the door faces the street, so I have no idea what it even saw. It's like these things have their own little brains that make stuff up sometimes. Makes you wonder if they're really listening all the time or just guessing based on random patterns.
