Spent $80 on a faraday bag for my car keys and now I sleep better

I used to think car thieves needed a tow truck or a slim jim but my buddy showed me his security footage from last winter where some guy just stood by his driveway with a radio box and popped a Lexus open in 30 seconds. Has anyone else actually tested if those relay attacks are real or just youtube hype?

Some guy just stood by his driveway with a radio box and popped a Lexus open in 30 seconds" - that is genuinely terrifying to read, I had no idea it was that fast. I get what @drewr15 is saying about the cheaper pouches probably working just fine, but for me $80 is worth the peace of mind if it means I never have to watch that video in my own driveway. My buddy tested his faraday box with a cheap key fob and it worked perfectly, so I think the tech is real.

Man that video gave me the chills too, I remember watching a similar one where a guy unlocked a Mercedes in under a minute with a little backpack setup. My neighbor actually bought one of those cheap faraday pouches after someone tried messing with his truck doors at 2am, and he said it tested out fine with his own key fob sitting right on top of it. I'm with you on the peace of mind thing, especially after hearing stories like that Lexus one. A buddy of mine kept his keys in a metal cookie tin for a month before he finally ordered a proper pouch, said it worked just as well in a pinch.

Nah those relay attacks are 100% real, not just youtube hype. My neighbor had his truck stolen from his own driveway at 3am using that exact method, the cops even showed us the footage. I tested it myself with a cheap little faraday pouch from amazon and my key fob signal dropped to zero from like 5 feet away. $80 sounds steep though, I got a decent one for like 15 bucks and it does the same job. Just make sure you actually put the keys in it before bed instead of leaving them on the counter like I used to do for the first week.
