The $3 thrift store coffee grinder that broke our morning routine

I bought a vintage coffee grinder from a garage sale for $3 thinking it would be a cute addition to our kitchen. My girlfriend hated the loud grinding noise at 5 AM when I got home from night shifts, and she said it sounded like a dying lawnmower. After three mornings of this, she unplugged it and hid it in the closet, and I didn't find it for a week. That little fight about the grinder turned into a bigger argument about how we never compromise on small things. Has anyone else had a cheap purchase wreck their relationship over something stupid?

Because THAT is exactly what happens when you let something small fester into something HUGE. I had a similar thing happen with my husband over a toaster that was like, 10 years old and basically toast shaped at this point. I kept saying we needed a new one because it burned everything on one side and he REFUSED to let it go because "it still works." After like three months of passive aggressive toast wars, we finally had this massive blowup in the kitchen about it. And the whole time we were both thinking "this is STUPID why are we fighting about bread appliances?" But the grinder you described sounds like it was actually LOUD at 5 AM which honestly is a legit thing to be annoyed about. So yeah, cheap purchases can absolutely wreck things when they become symbols of bigger problems in a relationship.
