Vent: I drove 4 hours to visit my ex's hometown and saw exactly why she left

She always talked about growing up in this tiny Kansas town called Liberal. Population like 1,200. I figured I'd check it out after she moved away. Got there last weekend and man, I get it now. One grocery store, two stoplights, and the nearest decent job is 45 miles away. Her whole life there was just waiting to escape. How do you spend 18 years somewhere and not go completely crazy?

Some of us actually like small towns though, quiet has its own kind of peace.

Spent a week in Muleshoe, Texas once. Same vibe. Empty fields and regret.

Empty fields and regret" pretty much sums up that whole corner of Texas. I drove through the Panhandle once and felt like I was the only person left on earth for hours. Hope you at least found a decent gas station coffee to survive it.
