Ngl, my tasting notes were all over the place until I skipped the crackers.
Honestly, I realized the bread I was eating between wines messed with my palate. Sticking to water made the flavors clear. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Why do we even use food as palate cleansers? It always leaves its own taste behind and messes things up. Just drink water and save yourself the trouble.

Bro have you actually tried good palate cleansers? @the_jake, water just washes things down, it doesn't reset your taste buds. Something like a bit of ginger or a light sorbet actively cuts through the old flavor so you can taste the next thing properly. It's the difference between wiping a whiteboard with a damp rag versus actually using the cleaner spray. You're missing out on the whole point of a tasting experience if you just guzzle water.

Actually, my friend did a whiskey tasting where they used plain soda crackers between samples. It sounds dumb, but the bland starch soaked up the old taste without adding any new one. He tried water first and said it just mixed the flavors into a weird slurry. The crackers let him actually taste each whiskey cleanly.

Tried plain white bread between wine samples once and it worked the same way, just a neutral reset. @the_jake water alone never cuts it for me either, everything just runs together.
