My uncle swore up and down that the moon landing was faked in a desert in Arizona

Last Thanksgiving at his place in Tulsa, he pulled out a grainy YouTube video and told me NASA used a soundstage in the Mojave. I asked him if he ever actually looked at the shadows in the Apollo photos, and he just changed the subject. Has anyone else had to sit through a family member's wild conspiracy theory over a turkey leg?

Man, that's rough. I gotta push back on this one though. The moon landing evidence is all over the place if you actually look at it scientifically. Like those reflectors the Apollo astronauts left on the moon - you can bounce lasers off them today from observatories on Earth. That's a solid fact. Your uncle's YouTube video can't explain that. And the whole "filmed in Arizona" thing falls apart when you realize the Apollo 11 command module Columbia is a real artifact you can see in a museum with scorch marks from re-entry. Not much you can fake about that.

Nah, I gotta disagree with you on the laser reflector thing. I mean yeah, they're there, but the real question is who put them there? Could've been unmanned landers, you know? The Soviets had those, and we had them too. The whole "filmed in Arizona" thing actually holds up better than people think when you look at the technical limitations of 1960s film. And that command module with scorch marks? Heat shields get beat up during atmospheric testing on Earth all the time - that's not proof of space travel. Just saying, the official story has more holes than a colander.

Bet your uncle also thinks the government is hiding aliens in Area 51 from a movie set in Roswell. Sure, the Soviets had unmanned landers, but they also had a pretty good track record of bragging when they did stuff first. Sounds like someone needs to swap the YouTube rabbit hole for a trip to the Air and Space Museum.
