A weird light over the lake last summer that still bugs me

I was camping at Lake Tahoe in August, sitting by the fire around 11 PM, when three orange lights in a perfect triangle just appeared and hung silent in the sky for maybe 30 seconds. They didn't blink or move like planes, then shot off in different directions faster than anything I've ever seen. I wasn't alone, my friend saw it too and we just stared at each other. What else could move like that, you know? Has anyone else seen something like that over a lake?

Saw the same orange triangle over Lake Michigan last year, freaked me out too.

Totally believe it. Watched a silent, bright red orb hover near the Chicago shoreline for a solid ten minutes before it shot straight up and vanished (no sound at all, which was the creepiest part). The lake at night just makes everything feel off.

That whole area seems to have weird lights. My cousin swears he saw a string of silent, bright white ones moving in a line near the Wisconsin shore. Makes you wonder what's going on up there. Maybe it's some kind of military testing they don't talk about. The lake is just so big and dark at night, anything looks strange.
