Drove 3 hours to a dark field in Marfa and saw nothing but satellites

Two years back I had to pick between the Texas star party near Fort Davis or a solo drive out to Marfa on a new moon. I picked Marfa and logged 14 moving lights in four hours, but every single one showed up on the satellite tracker app. Has anyone had luck at the McDonald Observatory area instead, or is west Texas just too much air traffic now?
