My backyard bird feeder got hit by a light beam 3 nights in a row

Last Tuesday around 11pm I went out to bring in my bird feeder because raccoons keep knocking it over. The feeder was swaying on its hook but there was no wind at all. Then a thin green beam shot down from the clouds and hit the feeder for maybe 4 seconds, then it stopped. Same thing happened Wednesday and Thursday, same exact spot and same green color. I checked with my neighbor who has a security camera and he caught it too, but we can't trace where the beam came from. Anyone else see a focused light hitting something specific like a tree or a mailbox, not just a general sky orb?

Check your local weather stations first. I had the exact same thing happen with a tree in my backyard, turned out the power company was using a laser to measure distance for line clearance work. They do this at night sometimes to avoid traffic delays. The green color is a dead giveaway, that's a common frequency for that equipment. Ask your neighbor to save that footage and call the non-emergency line for your utility company, they'll know exactly what it is. If it's not them, try the county surveyor's office, they use the same kind of gear for mapping. Either way, it's almost certainly someone doing lawful work, not a UFO or anything spooky.

Friend of mine had the same green light show up over his cornfield last fall, same story about utility work. He called the power company and sure enough they had a crew out there checking lines after a storm, no big deal. @paulw53 nailed it with the non-emergency line, that's exactly where they pointed him.
