My garbage disposal attacked me like a UFO abduction gone wrong

So I'm standing in my kitchen last Tuesday night trying to unclog the disposal. I've done it a hundred times with a wooden spoon. But this time the thing kicks on by itself. Just starts spinning and groaning like a possessed spaceship. A chunk of old potato flew out and hit me square in the forehead. My dog ran out of the room barking. I had to flip the breaker to shut it down. Now I'm half convinced my house is haunted by aliens messing with my plumbing. Has anyone else had a random appliance go rogue on you like that?

Read somewhere that older homes sometimes have crossed wires that make things turn on by themselves.

Dude that is legit terrifying. I had a toaster oven once that just started smoking for no reason, but it never attacked me with flying potato chunks. Your disposal sounds like it's got a mind of its own, maybe some wiring is fried or something. Dog knowing something was up is the real tell, they always sense weird stuff.

Man idk, I kinda think the dog thing is overblown sometimes. Like yeah they can pick up on stuff but half the time my dog just stares at a wall for no reason. Maybe the disposal was just old and the wiring finally gave out, no ghost in the machine or anything.
