Unpopular opinion: I think we're getting the 'UFO' thing completely backwards

Last summer, I spent about 80 hours over three months digging into declassified Navy footage and pilot reports. I was CONVINCED the government was hiding something huge. But the more I looked, the more I noticed a pattern. Almost every single credible sighting, like the 2004 Nimitz incident, happened near military testing zones or during advanced tech exercises. I learned that our own experimental aircraft and drones look absolutely bonkers if you don't know what they are. It made me question if the secrecy is less about 'aliens' and more about hiding our own tech from rivals. Has anyone else had a moment where the 'prosaic' explanation actually started to seem weirder than the alien one?

What changed your mind the most?

Honestly, most things people get super worked up about aren't that big a deal in the long run. You look back a year later and wonder why you even cared. Maybe changing your mind just means you finally got some sleep and saw how silly the whole argument was. It's rarely some deep, life-altering revelation.

Prosaic explanation" reminds me of when @mianelson swore his neighbor's new drone was a spy plane.

Went down the same rabbit hole a few years back. What got me was reading old pilot accounts of the SR-71 Blackbird, how people swore it was something not from this world when it first showed up. Realized we're probably just seeing our own secret stuff from weird angles.
