Watching the Perseid meteor shower from a ridge in Colorado last August, I saw a light that moved in a way nothing I know can.

It was a silent, bright green orb that shot straight up from behind a peak, stopped dead, and zipped sideways faster than a jet, which made me actually consider if we're being visited, so has anyone else seen something that just defies normal flight?

Bright green? That color alone is weird enough to make you wonder...

That dead stop max_brown mentioned is exactly it. Saw a light do the same thing over Lake Michigan a few years back. Just a silent white point that hung there, then accelerated to the horizon in a blink. No plane, no drone I've ever heard of moves like that. Makes the whole "swamp gas" explanation feel pretty weak.

How long did it stay stopped for? That dead stop is the part that gets me. I saw something similar once, a light that just hung in the sky for a solid minute, not drifting like a balloon, before it shot off. Makes you rule out satellites or planes pretty fast.
