Dub over subs debate got me banned from a forum last night

I was on a regular anime discussion board I've been on for maybe 2 years. A thread popped up about the best dubs for shows like Cowboy Bebop and I mentioned I actually prefer the sub for Attack on Titan. Then someone jumped on me saying dubs are always worse and I argued back that some dubs are fine depending on the studio. Next thing I know I got a timeout warning for 'starting drama' and I'm locked out for 3 days. The mod said I was being confrontational but I was just giving my opinion on an older show. Has anyone else gotten dinged for something this basic in an anime community?

Isn't that just how everything is now though? Nobody can disagree without it being drama.

Did you at least get a warning before the ban? I used to be pretty diehard about subs being the only way, but honestly seeing how heated people get about it (like in your case) made me realize it's just not worth fighting over. People should watch however they enjoy it most, even if that means a different voice actor than the original.

Man @drew_jones31 you're being WAY too nice about this. Subs vs dubs is NOT just a preference thing, it's about RESPECTING the original work. When you watch a dub, you're getting a completely different performance. Goku in Japanese vs Sean Schemmel? Totally different vibes. Same with Cowboy Bebop - the English cast nailed it but Spike's Japanese voice has this laid back cool that gets lost. Getting banned for arguing that is dumb but the passion comes from a real place, not just being elitist for no reason.
