Found out the original Sailor Moon anime had over 200 episodes across all its seasons
I was looking up some old series info on a fan wiki and saw the total count was 200 episodes. That's a huge number for a single series, and it really shows how much story they packed in back then. I always thought it was long, but seeing the actual figure surprised me. Does anyone know of a modern anime that even comes close to that kind of episode count anymore?

Actually... I kind of see it the other way. A lot of those episodes were filler to pad out the time while the manga was being written. So it's not really 200 episodes of solid story. Modern long runners like One Piece have way more, but even shorter shows today often tell a tighter story without all that padding. The high count is more about the old TV model than the actual content.

My buddy tried to get into one of those old shows last year, the one with all the ninjas. He said he had to skip like 50 whole episodes in a row because it was just a bunch of random side stories that went nowhere. He gave up because it felt like a waste of time.

Disagree with @angelarivera on the filler point. Those extra episodes built the world and let you just hang out with the characters, which has its own charm. Modern shows feel rushed by comparison, always sprinting to the next plot point.
