Got kicked out of my local anime meetup in Fresno over a hot take on filler arcs, and I still think I was right
Last Saturday at the Fresno library meetup, about 15 of us were ranking our top 5 shonen and I said filler arcs are sometimes BETTER than the manga canon, and the room basically turned on me. One guy actually said 'that's the worst take I've heard in 3 years of hosting this group' and asked me to leave early. I get it, people hate waiting through 40 episodes of nothing, but some filler gives side characters actual screen time instead of treating them like props. I think the manga-only crowd just hates anything that wasn't in the source material on principle. Am I really alone in thinking some filler episodes are worth watching, or is this group just extra strict?
