I finally tried a fan sub and now I'm in a moral pickle

I usually wait for official dubs to support the creators, but the latest Spy x Family episode was too tempting. I gave in and watched a fan sub, and the translation was spot on. That made me feel guilty because I know it doesn't help the anime industry. It's a gray area where I want to enjoy the show right away but also do the right thing. In online chats, fans fight over this all the time. Some say it's stealing, others say it's sharing culture. I see both points, and it leaves me confused. Part of me wants to go back to waiting, but the instant access is hard to give up.

But wait, is it fair to say fan subs don't help the industry at all? They spread word of mouth and get more people hooked, which often leads to buying merch or official releases later. I've seen friends get into a show through fan subs and then spend money on it. So it's not all bad, right?

Welcome to the club. Your moral dilemma is now part of the anime experience.

Disagree honestly. Some anime are just pure fun with zero moral questions. Why does everything have to be deep?

Yeah, that "pure fun" thing is so true. Sometimes you just want to watch something cool or funny without it being a whole thing. It's like @caseyf32 said, the second you start overthinking it, the fun gets ruined. Not every show needs to be a lesson, some are just a good time.
