I stopped rating shows by their endings and my whole watchlist changed
For a long time I would finish a show and the first thing I did was decide if the last episode stuck the landing. If it fumbled, I would knock the whole thing down a peg or two, no matter how good the first 20 episodes were. Last month I rewatched a series I had written off back in 2019 just because of a messy final arc, and I was shocked at how much I loved the middle part. The characters, the small talks between fights, the buildup, all of it still hit hard. That got me thinking about how many good shows I have mentally thrown away over one bad finale. Now I try to judge a show by how many scenes I still think about a month later instead of the last 20 minutes. So far that rule has moved at least three shows from my trash pile back to my favorites. Does anyone else separate the ride from the ending, or am I just making excuses for shows that flop at the finish?
