I swore I'd never watch One Piece but that Arlong Park arc changed my mind

I always thought One Piece was too long and kiddy so I skipped it for years. Then my buddy bet me $20 I couldn't get through the first 50 episodes without dropping it. It took me 6 full days of binging but Arlong Park's emotional payoff with Nami had me hooked. Now I'm 300 episodes deep and regretting all the time I wasted avoiding it. Anyone else get convinced to try a show they were stubborn about?

Arlong Park is episode 31 I believe, that's actually pretty early in the series. Most people I talk to say it takes until Enies Lobby or Marineford to really get them invested, but Arlong Park does a lot of heavy lifting with Nami's backstory and that punch Luffy throws through the wall. That scene where she's stabbing her own tattoo while crying, it hits hard because you realize she's been suffering alone for years just to save her village. It's wild how a show about rubber pirates can make you feel that much.

See it all the time in real life too. People carry these heavy burdens alone thinking they have to fix everything themselves before they can ask for help. That moment when Nami finally breaks down and says it out loud, that's the thing most of us never get the courage to do.
