Pro tip: logging every show you finish for a year will mess with your head, hit episode 500 last night
So I started a simple spreadsheet back in January just to see how much anime I really watch, and last night I logged episode 500 for the year. Five hundred. That number floored me, because it never felt like that much while I was doing it (mostly one or two episodes after work, nothing crazy). Now here's my debate with myself. Side one says tracking is great, I finally see that I finish about 60 percent of what I start and the 500 number pushed me to drop three shows I was hate-watching, which freed up real time. Side two says the number became the point, and around episode 400 I caught myself picking shorter 12 episode shows over the 50 episode one I really wanted to rewatch, just to keep the count moving. My friend Dana in Portland said the same thing happened to her with books and she quit tracking cold. So where do you all land, is a watch log a helpful tool or does the counter quietly start steering your choices? And if you do track, do you count rewatches or only new stuff?
