Started ranking my top 50 anime by rewatch count instead of score and my list flipped
I keep a spreadsheet of every show I finish and for 3 years I ranked them by my gut score out of 10. Out of boredom one night I added a column for how many times I'd gone back and rewatched each one, and the two lists barely matched. Stuff I'd called a 9 had zero rewatches, while a few 7s had 4 or 5, like I'd seen Toradora 5 times without ever calling it a favorite. What I learned is that my score is basically a review of the ending, but my rewatch count is a review of the whole ride. Curious if other people track this and whether your most rewatched show is nowhere near your top rated.
Saw a video essay a while back that made almost this exact point about how we rate stuff, and your spreadsheet basically proves it. The ending sticks in your head when you sit down to score a show, but rewatching is a whole different thing, it means you actually want to spend time in that world again. Toradora getting 5 views while never cracking your favorites is funny but also makes sense, it's an easy comfort watch. My most rewatched stuff is all shorter shows I can throw on without thinking, and none of it would make my top 10 if I was being honest about scores. Feels like rewatch count is closer to what you truly love and scores are closer to what you respect.
