Started watching One Piece 8 months ago and I finally get why people cry over a cartoon
Tbh I skipped One Piece for years because I thought 1000+ episodes was just too much. But around episode 312 with the Going Merry stuff, I actually had to stop and take a break because I was so emotional. That arc hit way harder than I expected from a show about rubber pirates. Now I'm at the Wano arc and I totally see why fans defend this series so hard. Has anyone else had that moment where a show suddenly clicks for you after you ignored it forever?

My mom actually watched the first 200 episodes of One Piece with me last summer. She's 58 and never liked anime. @nguyen.angela gets it though, we were both stubborn about different shows. The Going Merry funeral had her sobbing into her tea. Now she texts me random One Piece trivia she finds online. She messaged me last week asking if Luffy's hat has a name. Wild.

the Going Merry stuff" bro omg that's exactly where I got ugly crying too. I actually had to pause and go get tissues like a whole mess. For me it was totally different though. I slept on Attack on Titan for like two years because everyone hyped it so much and I was like whatever. Then I watched the first episode and that scene where Eren's mom gets eaten literally made me drop my phone. I was shook for days. It's wild how we judge shows before giving them a real chance. Like I was so stubborn about One Piece and now I'm over here tearing up over a ship talking to me. Truly the whiplash is real when you finally get invested after ignoring something forever.
