Torn between subbed and dubbed for Attack on Titan

I finally sat down to watch Attack on Titan last month and hit a wall deciding between subbed and dubbed. I went with the subbed version since everyone online hypes the Japanese voice acting. The first 12 episodes were great but I kept missing details because I was reading subtitles. Switched to dubbed for a test run and actually caught more of the story and emotion in later episodes. Stuck with dubbed through season 2 and liked it way better for action scenes. Anyone else flip-flop between formats and find one works better for specific shows?

Subbed vs dubbed really depends on the show for me. For Attack on Titan, I stuck with dubbed all the way through because the English voice actors nailed the intensity during the big fight scenes, especially when Eren transforms. Tried subbed for a few episodes in season 3 but kept rewinding to catch what people said mid-action. Ended up rewatching the whole thing in subbed later when I had time to focus, and the Japanese voice acting is legit great for the emotional speeches from characters like Levi or Erwin. So yeah, dubbed for first watch if you want to follow everything, subbed if you want the original performances on a rewatch.

I gotta disagree with the "dubbed for first watch" thing though @michael_green44. I feel like with AoT especially you miss a lot of the raw emotion in the subs during the big reveals. Like when Eren finds out about the basement stuff, the Japanese voice actor made me tear up way more than the English one ever did. I can see wanting to follow the action easier but I think the original performances hit harder even on a first run, you just have to get used to reading fast.
