A climber in Flagstaff told me to stop tipping trees past the notch, and I argued with him for 20 minutes
Turned out he was right, the hinge holds way better when you let it do the work instead of forcing it. So which is it, do you trust the hinge or muscle it over when a tree leans hard?
Waited, hold on. Twenty minutes? You stood there and argued with a stranger for twenty minutes about tipping trees? That is wild. I get it though, when a tree leans hard your gut says pull it and pull it now. But he was right, the hinge does the work if you let it. Muscling it just rips the hinge out and then you have nothing holding the tree. Trust the hinge.
