Can we debate how long to wait on a sick tree before calling it?

My pine looked half dead for over a year after some root damage. One crew says yank it now to avoid risks, but my buddy says trees can surprise you if you just wait. What's your take on when patience pays off versus when it's a waste of time?

Ever seen a tree that looked totally gone but bounced back? I used to be all for cutting them down fast to be safe. But this scraggly maple in my yard proved me wrong. It lost almost all its leaves one summer and just stood there like a dead stick for two whole years. I was ready to call it, but then last spring it just... woke up. Now it's fine, just slower. Sometimes patience is just waiting longer than feels reasonable.
